To invert an image is to reverse its colors, creating a digital negative. The picture keeps the same shapes and dimensions, but light areas become dark and colors change to their RGB opposites. Invert Image applies that change to the whole picture in your browser.
Pure red becomes cyan, green becomes magenta, and blue becomes yellow. Other shades follow the same rule: subtract each red, green and blue value from 255. For example, RGB (40, 100, 200) becomes (215, 155, 55). This is a fixed transformation, not a choice of replacement color.
Try it on a dark screenshot to preview a light-background version, turn black line art on white into white lines on black, or explore an illustration’s negative effect. Every color changes, including text and backgrounds. Inversion does not guarantee better contrast or readability for every image.
Compare the original and inverted previews, then use the switch to check either version. Download saves the version currently shown on the right as PNG. On a narrow screen the previews stack vertically. Your original file is not overwritten.
A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Each red, green and blue value is replaced by its opposite: 255 minus the original value. White becomes black, red becomes cyan, and blue becomes yellow. This creates a digital negative without moving or resizing any pixels.
No. Inversion changes the color channels and leaves transparency untouched. Downloading as PNG preserves transparent and semi-transparent areas. The checkerboard in the preview is only a backdrop; it is not part of your file.
Yes. Tap Choose image and select a JPG, PNG or WebP from your photos or files. After processing, tap Download image. Depending on your browser, the PNG may appear in Downloads or open in a preview where you can save it. HEIC files need to be converted to JPG or PNG first.
No. This tool reverses colors, not direction. Everything stays in the same position. It also does not change your phone’s screen settings or restore the original colors of scanned film negatives.
Your images are processed on your device. We do not send image files to a server, save them in an account, or require a login. Reset replaces your current image with the sample. This tool exports PNG only, even when the source is JPG or WebP. PNG keeps transparent areas and avoids adding JPEG compression during export, although the file can be larger. If you need JPG, convert the downloaded PNG in another editor and choose a background for transparent areas.
Not with this tool. It inverts all RGB color channels across the image while leaving transparency unchanged. Changing red to a chosen blue, preserving skin tones, or editing only the background requires a color-replacement or selection tool. A digital negative here also does not restore the original scene colors of a scanned film negative.
